OUR JOURNEY

In 2015, while working as a Spirits Sales Executive on the Gold Coast, Chris Macklin attended a premium bourbon masterclass that would forever change his path. A bolt of inspiration struck during that session, driving Chris to become a distiller. That same night, he bought his first still - an unassuming coffee urn with a copper or dome - and began his relentless pursuit of mastering the craft.

Chris’s journey was anything but linear. He started distilling in the laundry, then moved to the garage, and eventually set up shop in a mate’s backyard shipping container. Each step brought new challenges and refinements, leading to five stills and many years of honing his craft. By the time he was ready to launch Six-Tricks, Chris had developed a deep mastery of the art of distilling.

Distilling runs deep in Chris's blood. As the sixth-great-grandson of Josef Seppelt, the pioneer who industrialised Australian winemaking and spirit-making in the Barossa Valley, Chris continues a legacy of innovation and excellence. His passion for pushing boundaries and creating something truly unique is what drives Six-Tricks Distilling Co. today.

THE SIX-TRICKS DREAM COMES TO LIFE

The vision for Six-Tricks began taking shape in 2020. Chris joined forces with Co-Founder Teagan Peake, who brought her expertise in operations and marketing to the venture. By mid-2022, we had secured the perfect location in Mermaid Beach. The venue underwent a large-scale redesign, renovation, and fit-out, officially opening its doors on November 9th, 2023.

The name "Six-Tricks" was carefully chosen with significant brand logic behind it. The name reflects our ability to produce the six core spirit types—Rum, Whisk(e)y, Vodka, Gin, Agave, and Brandy—all in-house. It also nods to Chris’s heritage as a sixth-generation distiller. While Six-Tricks is the name of our venue and company, we plan to launch global brands under the parent brand Six-Tricks, starting with our soon-to-be-launched rum brand, followed by our whisky brand. We have even designed a world-first patent-protected bottle that is scheduled to be released next year.

At Six-Tricks, we blend tradition with innovation to craft exceptional spirits. Our state-of-the-art facility boasts hybrid pot and column stills, alongside a dedicated warehouse for aging barrels, because we know that great things take time.

Our efforts have already been recognised. Our Six-Tricks Silver Cane Spirit has taken home Bronze at both the Australian Rum Awards 2023 and the Australian International Rum Awards 2024—a testament to the quality and craftsmanship we pour into every bottle.

With a lush indoor bar, a Sunset Deck perfect for those Instagrammable moments, and an exclusive Founders Private Cask Lounge, our venue is designed to elevate every experience. Every detail, from the emerald green velvet and exposed brick, copper finishes and Italian Quartzite bartop, to the expertly crafted cocktails, all reflects our commitment to quality and innovation.
